Acne is simply an inflammation of the skin primarily affecting the sebaceous glands. People with acne basically have skin that is out of balance. The sebaceous glands become overactive due to various internal factors such as genetic, stress, and hormonal imbalances. Also external factors such as pollutants, and sun exposure. when this takes place, the sebaceous glands overproduce oil which in turn produce shiny skin which attracts dirt and provides an ideal environment for the development of bacteria. The outcome is acne breakouts and the development of pimples and/or blackhead. In the treatment of acne, we use BBL (broad band light) therapy to either destroy the acne bacteria that cause acne or damage the oil-producing sebaceous glands. Usually 3-4 treatments are required to achieve optimal results.
